Dr. Monize Decarli has a solid bioengineering, bioprocess, and tissue engineering background with 15 years of bench experience. She currently leads the Bioprinting and Biofabrication Group at the University Medical Center Groningen/University of Groningen at the Department of Biomaterials and Biomedical Technology (BBT/UMCG, Groningen, Netherlands). Her team works on projects closely connected to clinical applications at UMCG, developing and employing bioactive hydrogels and 3D cell models for several bioprinting applications, ranging from establishing reliable 3D models or manufacturing tissue-like constructs for tissue engineering purposes. Dr. Decarli had chemical engineering training and obtained her PhD in 2021 based on a double-degree agreement from Maastricht University (Netherlands) and the University of Campinas (Brazil).
Dr. Decarli was also a post-doc researcher at MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine (Maastricht, Netherlands) for two years and a half. Finally, in 2024 she concluded her training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston, United States) as a fellow in the Catalyst Program for seven months, focused on emerging biomedical innovation leaders for the healthcare system.
