Professor Michał Wszoła is a visionary scientist, transplant surgeon, and CEO of Polbionica S.A. He created the Bionic Pancreas-ATMP®, a groundbreaking bioprinted organ designed to restore blood sugar regulation and revolutionize the treatment of diabetes and chronic pancreatitis.
A pioneer in combining transplantology and endoscopy, he performed the world’s first endoscopic pancreatic islet transplantation in 2013. In 2019, his team achieved a major breakthrough by bioprinting the first fully vascularized bionic pancreas — a milestone in regenerative medicine.
Currently, Professor Wszoła is preparing for clinical trials to implant the bionic pancreas in humans, bringing this innovation closer to patients. At Polbionica, he leads efforts to integrate cutting-edge biotechnology, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine to develop patient-specific organ replacements. His research has earned international recognition and support, highlighting the transformative potential of bioprinted organs in personalized medicine.
He also serves as Scientific Director at the Foundation for Research and Science Development and Strategy Development Officer at MediSpace Hospital.
