Daniel Nieto García is a Distinguished Researcher and ERC Consolidator Fellow, as well as Director of the Advanced Biofabrication Laboratory at the University of La Coruña. He also leads DNIETOLAB-NWU, a joint research unit in biofabrication and bioprinting established in collaboration with North-West University in South Africa. His multidisciplinary academic background includes a Master’s degree in Experimental Physics from the National University of Ireland, a Ph.D. in Photonics and Laser Technologies (2012), and a Ph.D. in Clinical Research in Medicine (2024) from the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Dr. Nieto García has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications and over 80 conference contributions, and holds 7 patents related to cutting-edge biofabrication technologies. His inventions include bioprinters for cornea, skin, and cartilage, as well as biopens designed for the regeneration of skin and dental tissues. He is also co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of two biotech companies in the field of tissue engineering and bioprinting: 3DBiolux and HealthBiolux.
Most recently, he was awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant to lead a pioneering project focused on solving one of regenerative medicine’s major challenges: the fabrication of multiscale, multimaterial vascularized bioprinted tissues.
